What If

When discussing the possible existence of God, people usually think in terms of a dichotomy: either He is or He isn’t. But I was just thinking, what if there is a third option we are ignoring: What if God DID exist before but doesn’t anymore? What if (and bear with me here, this is complicated). What if He WAS around before and during the time of Jesus He had a deal with Christ saying ok we’ll go through the whole pre crucifiction routine and right before they nail you to the boards I’ll swoop down and save you then end the world and create the world to come.

And then further suppose that right before the whole thing went down God was IMing with Vishnu or something and forgot and after a while was like “Oh shit, that’s right! The crucifiction’s today!” And then he looks down and sees Jesus nailed to the boards and He freaks out and has an aneurism and dies.

And here we are 2,000 years later and the world’s still spinning.

    Interesting… but flawed.

Jesus rose up again and the disciples saw him before he ascended up to the heavens again.

He COULD have been freaked out after that, but somehow, I doubt it!

Having said that, Im not a bible scholar or anything, so my opinion doesn’t really count!

  2. Phelps says:

Yeah, but the theology is that Jesus did that through his own divinity, not the divinity of Jehovah.

I kind of like the idea that the gods of the Old Testament were space aliens who just went home (ala Zachariah Stitchin.)

  3. Mexigogue says:

Oh, that’s a goooood theory! If I was a space explorer and came upon a primitive species I think I would pretend to be God to mess with their minds! How could you not? Hehe!

  4. You mean to tell me God is dead? What about Buddah?

  5. Cosmic Siren says:

Buddha doesn’t exist any more. He thought himself into total nothingness.

  6. No God, No Buddah, Jebus is dead, then what is left?

  7. Mexigogue says:

    The Schwartz. In short, moichendizing.

May the Schwartz be with youuuuuuuuuu!!!

  8. God says:

    Nietzche is dead.

  9. Jeremy says:

People always ask whether or not “God” exists without even giving any thought to what “God” actually is. Doesn’t that really inform whether God “exists” or not? I mean, what IS God?

  10. Mexigogue says:

Most people in societies indoctrinated with the major monotheistic religions understand God to be the Uncreated Creator (hey, that sounds like an Apollo Creed nickname). He’s also understood to be omnipotent and omniscient. Then the ideas split off from there.

  11. Citizen Quasar says:

In “The Age of Reason” by Thomas Paine, he puts the resurrection of Jesus to the ultimate test. That is, he presents it like evidence in a trial for a body that has disappeared from a grave. He points out that there are so many contadictions in the story that it would never pass muster with a jury.
