I wrote a blog entry last April about a game of 21 I played against my son. He was about to turn 14 at the time and I barely beat him so I thought it was noteworthy. Now he just turned 15 and he’s taller than me so we went back out to play again. We got out to the court and he jumped up and grabbed the net and then reached up and grabbed the rim. Uh oh, I thought. This isn’t gonna be like last year.

In my defense I was hanging in there. When he blocked my hookshot it became not funny anymore. He beat me the first two games and then in the third I was up 14-13 and suddenly had to quit because I was winded. Yeah, that’s it. I was winded.

I’m going to take up golf.

My son’s 14 and I doubt he’ll ever beat you in basketball, because he’s a couch geek like Mom. But damn, he’s getting good at the sarcasm and technical knowledge.

My friend just got an apartment that abuts a golf course. He has a lot of fun with an airhorn now. He’s looking at getting some stinkbombs and one of those giant slingshot things for the ones that wake him up with boomboxes early Saturday mornings.
