America’s Army

So I’m playing America’s Army online yesterday and the mission is to shut down an enemy oil pipeline. There are three different valves my team has to shut down and I team up with another player to head for the exterior valve. Most people play this game like cowboy shootem-up but I want to do this right. As play begins we sprint toward our objective while our other teammates scatter to the four winds.

The quickest route to the exterior valve involves a hazardous sprint alongside a long wall to your left and a high fence to your right. You have to run straight towards a closed door where enemy fighters can pop out and begin firing at you either with rifles or rocket propelled grenades. Either way you’re a sitting duck if you’re caught there. My teammate and I have it down to a science. Seeing the coast clear, I sprint through as fast as I can while he hangs back with a grenade launcher in case the door pops open. The ten seconds or so it takes to get to the break in the fence seems to take forever but I get there and pop through shortly followed by the guy who was covering me. We’re making good time and we weren’t detected.

I run around the corner straight to the door leading toward the exterior valve room and put my weapon on burst. I could open the door and flash grenade the room if I wanted to but if there is an enemy waiting inside to ambush me I’ll probably die in a hail of gunfire. Chances are we’ve made it here before any enemy could get here to cover it but time is of the essence to I burst into the room. No sign of anyone so I go straight for the valve and begin to turn it. It hisses loudly as I begin shutting it off and the process takes about ten seconds. Anyone on this part of the facility can hear it, including the enemy but my teammate is in the room now covering the stairway where the enemy would approach from within. The valve has now been shut, our team has just two objectives to go. What do we do now?

Generally when the enemy hears the exterior valve get shut they lie in wait inside because they know you’re going to come through to get the other valves next. I’m not in the mood to get ambushed so we decide to run back outside and psyche them out by entering from a door on the other side of the building rather than progressing from inside which would be the shortest distance. I’m wondering how are other teammates are faring and while we’re outside trying to make our way safely around the building we hear the other two valves get shut down by our other teammates. We hear “Mission Complete!”

Nailing all our objectives within two minutes, playing good teamwork, and not even seeing an enemy fighter is better than winning a blazing firefight. That is the ideal mission.

Maybe their internet was down or their computers froze.

  2. Mexigogue says:

Hey Rae, I haven’t heard your voice in a while, I was thinking I might call you. Is your number still 666?

  3. rae says:

NO I changed it- my new number is 1-900-HOT-BABE.

  4. guy in the UNLV jacket says:

Don’t call her. She is a racist. I heard she was at Leroy’s going around saying “I hate black people”

  5. rae says:

    And mexicans.

  6. Mexioggue says:

She’s so racist I heard she did it to a black man and then burned a cross in her own yard!

  7. rae says:

It wasn’t a cross – it was a clothes line pole and it wasn’t a fire it was a few sparks from my grill.

  8. guy in the UNLV jacket says:

Tell it to the Jury “Hate Crime” girl

  9. R says:

How good is the enemy AI in that game? And is it like the Rainbow Six games where one shot kills you?

  10. Mexigogue says:

They don’t have missions you can play against enemy artificial intelligence. I’ve only played against other people online and a lot of them have hacks. But there is punkbuster software that tries to detect and ban the hackers.

  11. Mexigogue says:

Oh and one shot can kill you if it’s in a critical area but if you get grazed you will be wounded but still have mobility (although slowed depending on how bad you were hit).

  12. Phelps says:

If you like missions like that, try Deus Ex. It has that sort of play, plus all sorts of futuristic Illuminati UN conspiracy goodness.

  13. guy in the UNLV jacket says:

I’ve been playing Star Wars battle front. It looks pretty cool but I am getting bored with it. I am thinking of buying Ghost recon 2. Anybody played it?

  14. Mexigogue says:

No but I’m playing an entire season on NBA 2003 Live with my character running the point position on the New Jersey Nets. Baeza is 2nd in the league in both points and assists!

  15. Phelps says:

I bet it doesn’t mean anything to anyone here, but Deus Ex is the best FPS I’ve played since Marathon Infinity. HALO was close, but I’d pick Deus Ex because the storyline and non-linearness is so so much better.

  16. guy in the UNLV jacket says:

Id deus on PS2 or Xbox?

  17. The "D" says:

Ghost Recon 2 is very hard. trust me it will frustrate the hell out of you.

  18. guy in the UNLV jacket says:

Frustrate me how? Throw my PS2 agianst the wall or keep playing and have fun

  19. Mexigogue says:

Frustrate you like that time we went up to Chips and three chicks in a row shot you down and you immediately surmised that we must have happened upon a lesbian bar.

  20. guy in the UNLV jacket says:

Why would I be frustrated then? They were obviously lesbians that would shoot down any other man, up to and including superman!! They had a problem not me! FUCKING CARPET MUNCHERS!!!!! I”LL KILL THEM NEXT TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  21. Phelps says:

Buddy… I’m about to pee my pants laughing at Russ’ new song. I keep breaking up at “Cucumber Wine”.

  22. Phelps says:

I played it on my Mac, but it comes on X-Box and PS2 also. (Haven’t played those versions.) I would say get the PC version if you have a decent PC.

  23. The "D" says:

Hey I want to hear Russ new song!!!

  24. Mexigogue says:

  25. Phelps says:

I think Don puts it up at around 8 or so. He gets it up the same night. It was in the… probably second segment. He gets Spittle on the phone about the car dealer chick he went out with, and sings Gavin a new song.

  26. MiAn says: has an old abadoned microsoft title “Allegiance”, updated by the gaming community, and free. Team play space battles, directed by a commander, also no AI. Strategy and first person shooter combined–it’s a great idea, though if there aren’t a couple of experienced comms online, it’ll suck.

  27. The "D" says:

Goodmorning all! I just ordered a Dell computer and my blog will never be the same. I am more excited than a divorce hearing.

  28. Mexigogue says:

    Duuuuude! You’re gettin’ a Dell!

    When will you have it?

  29. Phelps says:

    Dude! You’re getting a Dull!

On the other hand, I think I’m going to save my milk money and buy me one of those Mac Minis and give it to my mom. She’s been bitching that the old iMac that I bought her (and dropped a FUCKING GRAND on not 14 months ago) won’t be able to run the newest version of the Sims. Oh, woe is her.

  30. The "D" says:

LMAO!! You have to make sure you get mom what she wants. You have to take care of the greatest woman in your life!!! How di dyou get her hooked in Mac?

  31. Phelps says:

I started out in Radio/Film/Television. Avid was on Mac, all the graphic software (that wasn’t on SGI or Chyron or something) was on Macs, and the best stuff (FCP, DVDSP, etc) still runs on Mac only or runs better on Macintosh.

  32. laconis says:

What is a good game to get started on. I have a Dell laptop as my main computer. Not much in way of a visual or sound card (probably 64 or something). 256 ram, probably.

I downloaded Myst and wasn’t impressed. Didn’t get very far. Do I need more built in to play these games? Whats a good one to start with.

  33. Mexigogue says:

For America’s Army you need a minimum of 512MB RAM so that leaves that out of the question. And since that’s the only game I play other than NBA 2003 Live I’m limited as to any further advice I could give you. Your calls may monitored to assure quality service.
