Beyond the Pale

Holy shit! Al Qaeda called Obama a house negro! Dude, that is uncool, even by Al Qaeda standards. This is kind of like the Dog the Bounty Hunter thing all over again. Before you know it Bin Laden is going to meet up with Al Sharpton and shit.

What makes you think that bin Laden hasn’t already met up with Sharpton before this? Hell, he’s probably just repeating what Sharpton told him. (Don’t focus on Jesse crying in front of the cameras and forget what he said when he thought they were off.)

ZOMG! I just saw this in the story:

“House Negroes” is the English translation of the Arabic term “house slaves.”

WTF? “House slaves” is the English translation of the Arabic term “house slaves.” Jeez. That’s like someone saying, “the translation of the Arabic term ‘bad driver’ is ‘Asian-American.'”

I’ve since seen it reported that the arabic word used (abd) can be translated as either “slave” or “negro” so it may actually be a proper translation.

My guess is that when the Autobiography of Malcolm X got translated into Arabic “house negro” got translated into “house slaves” and since the Arabic word was used in reference to a quote they translated it back to the original English term. It’s still funny though because they’re slamming Barack with a 40 year old slur.

Actually, from what I’ve been reading, it is (modern) Arabic that doesn’t make the distinction. Which speaks volumes.
